Golf all year round in Greater Madrid
26 October, 2022Every year, Greater Madrid receives a significant amount of international tourism attracted by the possibility of enjoying golf, a sport which is recommended to combat the stress of everyday life. The moderate climate of the region allows you to practise this hobby - which for many is a passion - at any time.
The facilities available, distributed between the urban area and pleasant wooded areas, enjoy great fame, are very complete and have been developing since 1895, when the Madrid Polo Golf Club opened, the origin of the Real Club de Golf Puerta de Hierro (1914), which testifies to the roots of this sport in the region. Many of these were designed by prestigious experts and have hosted important tournaments.
The vast majority of golf courses in Greater Madrid have 18 holes, with layouts that sometimes represent a great challenge for players but there are a few 9 hole courses and one with 36 holes. There are a total of 30 golf clubs and for some you need to be a member to play.
This is the case of the Sociedad Hípica Española Club de Campo (RSHECC), the Retamares Golf Club, or the Club de Campo Villa, among others. Instead, in the heart of the capital is the Centro Nacional de Golf, a club open to all with 18 competition holes. The Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, very close to Madrid, is one of the clubs with the longest history.
One of the best courses in Europe is Golf Santander, located in the town of Boadilla del Monte, designed by Rees Jones and home to the Jim Mc Lean golf school, considered number one in the world. Other options are Golf Park Madrid, where you can also play other sports or the RACE Sports Complex, the Lomas Bosque Golf Club or Robledal Golf.
In addition, several facilities include a golf school, which is ideal for visitors who want to learn the sport or simply improve their game. Greater Madrid is undoubtedly the best destination to choose when you decide to travel for a relaxing golf holiday.
