Carlos Descotte, Director of Sales Hotel RIU Plaza España
“We want to be the first option of clients when they think about Madrid”
- How would you describe the hotel?
It’s a unique product. An iconic building with a history deeply rooted in the city of Madrid and its people. In a short time, the Hotel RIU Plaza España has become a benchmark for national and international tourism for those who come to spend a few days in the city, either for work or leisure.
Generally, we have business clients from Monday to Thursday, who fill the corridors and halls with their meetings and events, while at the weekends, it is filled with families who come to live the RIU experience while enjoying the best views of the city. Its 582 rooms, its Convention Centre and the incredible Rooftop on the 27th floor give a lot of scope.
- What benefits and attractions does the urban hotel have for a travel agent?
With the best location, in the heart of the city, you have everything nearby. It is a lively hotel, with lots happening. One moment, you can be enjoying a meeting in its rooms with your company and later you can be having brunch in the Gastro bar on the 26th floor or watching the sunset on the 360º Rooftop with the Royal Palace in front of you, while you relax with a drink after a day of work.
We have created different areas to be discovered and this is something that clients value and enjoy.
- What makes the Hotel RIU Plaza España unlike the competition?
Mainly I’d say the chance of being inside an iconic building which represents part of Madrid’s history. The client enters and begins to live an unforgettable experience, surrounded by a design which transports you to the ‘50s. We are the largest hotel in the city centre, with a very large number of rooms, bedrooms and spectacular high-rise areas. And, finally, the RIU service which characterizes us: when customers arrive at a RIU, they know what they are going to find and feel at home.
- What goals does the hotel plan to achieve in 2023?
We are very optimistic, we have reached boiling point in all segments and we know that Madrid is trendy. International tourism continues to grow, already surpassing the data for 2019. Madrid has been chosen for the fifth consecutive year as the best MICE Destination in Europe. This client represents 14% of the city’s arrivals.
Given all this, our goal is clear: we want to be the first choice for clients when they think of Madrid as a destination. This can only be achieved by maintaining a high level of quality, with competitive prices and relying on sustainability.
