From Grammys to Davis Cup: Andalusia positioned for major events
6 December, 2023In 2023, Andalusia has managed to become the host and venue for world-class sporting and artistic events, thanks to its cultural offer, the quality of its venues and facilities, and the growing range of luxury hotels. From the Tennis World Cup to the Latin Grammys, as well as music festivals and golf tournaments.
Andalusia, the great sports region
The last major event was the Davis Cup Final 8, held from 21 to 26 November. The most prestigious team competition in the tennis world, for the second consecutive year, ended up in Malaga and thanks to the organisation, the Palacio de los Deportes José María Martín Carpena will once again host the finals in 2024, consolidating the image of Andalusia as a benchmark for international sporting events.
For the first time since 2008, Spain was chosen to host the finals of the Billie Jean King Cup, which took place from 7 to 12 November in Seville. Cordoba hosted the junior finals of both competitions: the Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Juniors and the Davis Cup Juniors Finals.
“The Autonomous Government of Andalusia's commitment to sport reinforces the Andalusia Brand, as well as attracting wealth, the impact of these events also generates employment and well-being”, said its President Juanma Moreno
This is not the only thing, in recent years Andalusia has also hosted the Final Four of the Basketball Champions League, the World Padel Tour, the Titan Desert, the Solheim Cup or the finals of the Copa del Rey. These sporting events have an impact on the destination’s economy, not only because of the visitors they attract, but also due to social networks and the media.
Seville, destination chosen by the Latin Grammys to leave the United States
After 24 editions, this year’s Latin Grammy Awards left the United States for the first time in history and the destination chosen for its celebration was Seville, reinforcing the brand value of Andalusia.
The awards ceremony was held at the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones in Seville and nearly 5,000 people attended, including guests, artists, producers and members of the music industry
The Autonomous Government of Andalusia stressed that thanks to this event, the Andalusian community has written “a very special and unique page in its history and culture, demonstrating that it is a destination of excellence and that it is prepared to successfully host benchmark events of great impact such as the Latin Grammy Awards”.
“We have shown that we have the capacity to organise, that we are a friendly, professional society”, and that “we are capable of putting Seville and Andalusia in the world”, remarked Juanma Moreno
The first report presented by the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport put the impact of the Latin Grammy Sessions in Granada and Malaga and Latin Grammy Week in Seville at 116.2 million euros for Andalusia. During the week of the Latin Grammys, 6,033 news items were published in the national media alone; the television advertisement prior to the Latin Grammy Week on Televisión Española had an impact of more than 40 million impressions and the content produced by Turismo Andaluz reached 10 million impressions.
In addition, for the first time and exclusively, the awards were broadcast live on the social network Twitch, with more than one million active users during the streaming. The broadcast, sponsored by Turismo de Andalucía, was the most watched of the day in Spanish. This broadcast generated more than 335,000 hours of viewing.
