Palma in the autumn: outdoor life, culture and luxury in the Mediterranean
12 June, 2024Whether it’s a city break or a sun and beach holiday, Palma is perfect for enjoying it al fresco. Autumn is a good time to visit the Balearic capital because the mild temperatures allow you to discover the heritage of its historic centre, full of squares, palaces, churches and iconic monuments. The city offers narrow streets with treasures in the form of courtyards or modernist buildings and avenues lined with shops, but also tempting street-side terraces and trendy rooftops.
City and nature environments
Between visits to iconic sites such as the Cathedral, the Almudaina or Bellver Castle, it is possible to stop in the shop windows of exclusive shops and local creations, or enjoy some of Palma’s historical restaurants, bars and bakeries. How about trying an ensaimada or the city’s most famous bread roll, the llonguet?
Palma also stands out for its surroundings. Within a short distance there are beautiful natural enclaves, ideal for enjoying outdoor activities.
The Sierra de Tramontana mountain range, declared a World Heritage Site, or the Cabrera National Park are two of the excursions that complement a cultural visit to the city at any time of the year
Palma, full of life 365 days a year
Palma is a city with a hectic calendar of events and cultural life. Throughout the year, halls and theatres put on first-class shows, art galleries exhibit unique pieces and museums delight art and history lovers.
Some of the outstanding places are the Miró Foundation, Es Baluard and the Juan March Museum or the public areas of the Casal Solleric and Can Balaguer, cultural and exhibition centres housed in 18th century palaces as well as other places scattered throughout the municipality.
On the top of a hill to the west of Palma, and surrounded by a fragrant pine forest, stands Bellver Castle, built in the 14th century as a fort. Spain’s only circular castle hosts classical music concerts under the stars in its impressive courtyard, and has a museum with Roman, Arab and Spanish artefacts that provide an insight into the history of the city.
