Calvià welcomes tourists: one tourist, one friend
The City Council of the Mallorcan town launches a promotional campaign to highlight that it welcomes tourists with open arms 27 November, 2024'One Tourist, One Friend’. With this slogan, the City Council of Calvià wants to remind potential tourists in 2024 that the municipality, the most touristic in the Balearic Islands, awaits them with open arms all year round. Through a two-minute video, which will tour the main European fairs of the sector (and which has been presented at the World Travel Market in London), Calvià dissociates itself from the anti-tourism demonstrations.
Anti-tourist demonstrations have made headlines in Mallorca and other European destinations in recent months, and Calvià, with this campaign, claims to be a place in which there is no place for tourismphobia. This has been reiterated by the mayor, Juan Antonio Amengual, in multiple interviews published in Spanish, British and German media over the last few months and has been reflected in an audiovisual piece that will also be shown on social networks.
A destination that has pioneered advances in the sector for decades, Calvià shows a renewed side, with an up-to-date hotel industry and an associated offer that has been able adapt to these new times whereby visitors are increasingly demanding. The video shows a message in a light-hearted and fun way, filmed in different parts of the municipality, highlighting what continues to be the hallmark of Calvià: over 300 days of sunshine a year, beaches that are never overcrowded and everything that allows travellers to have a unique experience in the Mediterranean.
But Calvià's audiovisual proposal for the 2025 promotion of the destination is not just a nod to the tourism of a lifetime. The City Council also offers a sample of everything that can be found in Calvià through a more classic promotional video, which has also been screened at the WTM. Two short documentaries have also been made on the Galatzó public land, the gateway to the Serra de Tramuntana.
Calvià hosts ABTA in October
Calvià is a destination open all year round to tourists. In order for those who are in charge of selling it to get to know it better, Magaluf will host the annual convention of ABTA, the UK’s largest association of travel agents and tour operators. About 450 British agents will be in the municipality from 6 to 8 October. ABTA delegates will stay at the recently renovated Meliá Calvià Beach Hotel and the neighbouring Meliá South Beach, two hotels that spearhead quality, repositioning and modernity in the municipality.
The mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, stressed the importance of hosting a professional event of this level: “the arrival of ABTA in Calvià is part of our policy of tourism dimension and the work to break the seasonality curve. There’s no one better than the specialised agents to get first-hand knowledge of Calvià’s attraction and publicise its appeal. And they’ll visit us in October, late season, which will also show them that Calvià is much more than sun and beach, something we do not deny, that autumn and winter are ideal seasons to visit us and discover another side of the municipality that has so much to offer”.
