Spain: record number of tourists and spending in the first half of the year

Spain closed the first half of 2025 with a new tourism record: 44.5 million international visitors, 4.7% more than in the same period in 2024. June alone saw 9.5 million tourists, an increase of 1.9% year-over-year. In addition, total expenditure amounted to 59,622 million euros, the highest ever recorded, with a growth of 7.5%, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE).

The UK once again led as the main source country, with more than 8.9 million tourists in six months, with 2.1 million in June alone. Germany contributed 5.7 million and France about 5.6 million. Hotels were the most chosen option, with an increase of 4.7%, while rented accommodations fell by 5.6%. The average daily expenditure stood at 209 euros, a 6.5% increase.

By destination, the Balearic Islands was the most visited region in June, with 23.9% of the total, followed by Catalonia (21.1%) and Andalusia (15.0%). In the accumulated six-month period, Catalonia leads with 9.3 million tourists, ahead of the Canary Islands (7.8 million) and Andalusia (6.8 million). The non-package segment continues to dominate, with 6.9 million travellers in June, 1.2% more than the previous year.
