Riu Hotels invests over €3 million in social projects
24 September, 2025Riu Hotels & Resorts allocated €3.17 million to social investment in 2024 as part of its Proudly Committed strategy, which completed its first year of implementation. The chain developed 104 actions alongside 88 strategic allies, directly reaching over 55,000 people and indirectly another 82,000, according to its 2024 Annual Report.
The focus on children accounted for 71% of the funds, with research programmes against childhood cancer - accumulating almost €2 million since 2014 -, mother and child health projects in Latin America and educational actions in Africa.
Nature conservation and biodiversity received 22% of the investment, with projects in Mexico, the Maldives, Costa Rica, Mauritius and the Dominican Republic focusing on reef restoration, reforestation and species protection. The remaining 7% went to community initiatives in destinations in Africa and Latin America.
In parallel, the company reduced its scope 1 and 2 emissions per stay by 10% compared to 2023, which is 61% less since 2021. In addition, 72% of its 98 hotels in 21 countries are already environmentally certified.
