Yotel co-founder reinvents rural tourism in Girona
24 September, 2025Gerard Greene, co-founder of Yotel, has opened Off Grid Girona, a 10-room rural hotel in Alta Garrotxa, on 1 September. The project stems from the restoration of a 17th century farmhouse, in collaboration with the designer Ariadna Puigdomenech, preserving the essence of the original stone and incorporating recycled furniture and modern equipment.
The establishment is committed to sustainability and local products, from the amenities and bed linen to the gastronomy, based on local and seasonal ingredients. The resident chef creates a changing menu that is served at communal dinners, while the self-service bar offers local wines, coffee from small producers and craft beer.
Outdoor areas include wildflower gardens, a swimming pool, terraces and a studio for yoga and workshops. It also has a bicycle garage for cycling routes in the area. Environmental measures include the use of spring water, on-site composting, drought-resistant gardens and solar-ready systems.
Located in the heart of La Garrotxa, Off Grid Girona also organises activities such as hiking, hot air balloon rides and visits to local vineyards.
