The six Escarrer brothers take control of Meliá’s shareholding

24 September, 2025

The shareholding control of Meliá Hotels International has passed to the six children of the founder, Gabriel Escarrer Juliá, following the death in November 2023 of their father and, recently, of their mother, Ana María Jaume. The company has informed the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) that the heirs are now owners of the family companies that hold 49.41% of the hotel group’s capital.

The change is part of the 2018 shareholders’ agreement, which remains unchanged and which establishes, for at least five years after Mrs Jaume’s death, the obligation of a reinforced majority of 80% in the general meetings of the companies to adopt decisions affecting their shareholding in Meliá.

The companies Hoteles Mallorquines Consolidados, Hoteles Mallorquines Agrupados and Hoteles Mallorquines Asociados declare stakes of 24.365%, 11.290% and 13.763%, respectively. Through Tulipa Inversiones 2018, the six heirs also hold an indirect 5.388%, which brings their shareholding control to over 54.7% of the voting rights.

In a statement, the siblings - María Magdalena, Ana María, María Antonia, María Mercedes, Sebastián and Gabriel Juan - emphasise that they seek to convey “stability and confidence” to the rest of the company’s shareholders and stakeholders.
