Spanish airports break all-time records in August
24 September, 2025The airports of the Aena network in Spain received 33,327,702 passengers in August, 3.8% more than in the same month of 2024, which is a monthly all-time record both in the network as a whole and in 10 airports. In the same period, 262,001 aircraft movements were handled (+3.1%) and 110,076 tonnes of cargo were transported (+5.4%).
The airport with the highest traffic was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with 6.24 million passengers (+2.8%), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat (5.67 million, +4.8%) and Palma de Mallorca (4.7 million, +2.4%). Other notable growth rates were those of Malaga-Costa del Sol (+7.9%), Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández (+6.9%) and Gran Canaria (+6.2%).
In operations, Madrid-Barajas led with 37,189 flights (+1.6%), ahead of Barcelona-El Prat (33,296, +3.7%) and Palma de Mallorca (31,453, +1.7%). Four airports had record movements in August: Palma de Mallorca, César Manrique-Lanzarote, Melilla and El Hierro.
Between January and August 2025, Spanish airports accumulated 216.7 million passengers, 4.1% more than in the same period of 2024, as well as 1.81 million operations (+4.3%) and 862,255 tonnes of cargo (+5.7%).
