Nine charming villages in Spain for a rural getaway in autumn

24 September, 2025

The onset of autumn makes September an ideal time for rural tourism in Spain, with mild temperatures and fewer tourists. Nine villages are presented as outstanding options for weekend getaways that combine heritage, nature and gastronomy.

In the Aragonese Pyrenees, Aínsa preserves its mediaeval layout next to the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park. In contrast, on the Almerian coast, Mojácar offers blue flag beaches and a historic old town of Moorish origin. El Burgo de Osma (Soria) combines medieval heritage and spa therapy in a monumental setting.

In the Maestrazgo region of Castellón, Morella stands out for its castle and walls, while in Laguardia (Rioja Alavesa), wine tourism is the star of the getaway with underground cellars and grape harvest landscapes. Setenil de las Bodegas (Cádiz) surprises us with its houses carved out of the rock.

Nature is the protagonist in Bulnes (Asturias), gateway to the Picos de Europa and in Agüero (Huesca), dominated by the Mallos, a destination for climbers. Finally, Bocairent (Valencia) combines the Covetes dels Moros and its mediaeval quarter with trails in the Sierra de Mariola.

Nine proposals that show the diversity of Spanish rural tourism in autumn.
