The Gran Hotel Taoro reopens, a legend of European tourism
The historic 5-star in Puerto de la Cruz is reborn with a unique cultural, gastronomic and wellness offering 5 November, 2025The Gran Hotel Taoro, Spain’s first grand luxury hotel, has reopened in Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife) after a thorough refurbishment that revives one of the most iconic symbols of European hospitality. Opened in 1890, the building (which is neoclassical in style and designed by the Frenchman Adolphe Coquet) hosted personalities such as Agatha Christie and Alfonso XIII.
Its new phase, promoted by the Cabildo [Town Hall] of Tenerife and managed by My Way Hotels & Resorts, combines heritage preservation with an offering tailored to the contemporary traveller. The hotel has 199 rooms, six gastronomic venues led by Michelin-starred chefs such as Ricardo Sanz and Erlantz Gorostiza and a wellness centre with treatments by Anne Semonin París.
In addition, the Xplora programme offers local experiences focused on nature, culture and Canarian gastronomy. With this reopening, the Gran Hotel Taoro regains its role as a benchmark for quality, sustainable tourism in the Canary Islands, blending history, luxury and authenticity.
