Hotels opt for water leisure to differentiate their product

3 December, 2025

Resort hotels are concentrating their investment in outdoor spaces, where water leisure has become the driving force behind repositioning and a clear way to raise ADR (average daily rate). The trend encompasses everything from large‑format slides to artificial surf lagoons, as well as expanded gardens, outdoor spas and premium areas that allow segmentation of audiences and an enhanced experience without increasing the number of rooms.

The evolution that began in the 1990s has resulted in products capable of retaining guests within the complex and increasing their spend. To address water‑consumption challenges, hotel chains are incorporating digital leak‑control systems, more efficient depths and the use of desalinated water in destinations with water stress.

New projects integrate diverse pool types, outdoor gastronomy and separate areas for families, adults or active profiles, relying on landscape design and “photo‑worthy” areas that amplify visibility on social media. From an investment perspective, these actions are key to justifying price increases and improving relationships with tour operators.

The latest frontier is defined by low‑consumption surf lagoons, which make it possible to create new destinations, attract year‑round demand and convert underused outdoor areas.
