Spanish cities compete for the most spectacular Christmas

3 December, 2025

Spain once again stands out for the breadth and diversity of its Christmas lights, with cities that have turned lighting into a tourist attraction in its own right. Vigo maintains its position as a national benchmark thanks to almost 12 million LED lights spread over 460 streets, with more than 7,000 decorative motifs, themed markets and large luminous structures that have turned the city into one of the best-known Christmas routes in the country.

In the Mediterranean, Alicante is adding 2.6 million lights and a monumental tree surrounded by giant figures, while Valencia is opting for an artistic approach with weekly pyromusical shows and the installation of 45 Christmas trees throughout the city.

For those looking for major urban displays, Madrid offers one of the most extensive options, with 13 million bulbs distributed across more than 240 locations, including luminous cherry trees and giant fir trees throughout the capital. Barcelona, for its part, focuses the design on the Passeig de Gràcia and extends its lighting to all districts with a distinctive aesthetic that reinforces its visual identity.

Other cities such as Salamanca, Cáceres, Seville and Mslaga complete the route with walk-through trees, videomapping, illuminated nativity scenes and designer installations, creating a Christmas map that is especially attractive for international travellers.
