A 5-star hotel in Cantabria that also operates as an antique shop
4 March, 2026Palacio de la Helguera, a 17th-century palace converted into a 5-star boutique hotel in the Valles Pasiegos (Cantabria), operates under a unique model: high-end accommodation and an antique shop in the same space. With 11 rooms, the establishment allows its guests to purchase much of the furniture and decorative pieces that form part of the stay.
Defined as a “hotel-antique shop” and for adults only, Palacio de la Helguera combines hospitality with the trade of art and antiques. The concept is based on a clear premise: the guest not only stays among selected pieces, but can also buy them, extending the experience beyond rest.
The interior design is by the Spanish designer Malales Martínez Canut, who is also the owner. The project brings together antiques, contemporary furniture and objects acquired in European antique shops, auctions and international travels, with Spanish and English influences.
Each of the 11 rooms, dedicated to historical figures linked to the area, includes period furniture, graphic works, collectible tableware and fine textiles.
The purchasing process is straightforward: the guest checks availability and price and the hotel arranges the shipment. Pieces are replaced as they are sold, maintaining the dynamic character of the establishment.
