The New York Times chooses 2 Spanish destinations among 52 to visit in 2026
4 March, 2026The New York Times has included two Spanish proposals in its annual “52 Places to Go” list for 2026: Barcelona’s Poblenou neighbourhood and the cultural itinerary La España de Sorolla. Both appear in positions 10 and 21 of a selection considered one of the main barometers of international tourism trends.
Spain once again gains visibility in one of the most influential travel lists in the US market. Poblenou, Barcelona’s former industrial district, is recognised for its urban transformation, which combines industrial heritage, creative spaces and new cultural projects. Barcelona’s designation as World Capital of Architecture in 2026 reinforces interest in emerging, less crowded neighbourhoods.
In the cultural sphere, La España de Sorolla offers a route between Madrid and Valencia. In the capital, the Museo Sorolla will reopen after its refurbishment, increasing its exhibition space. The itinerary is completed with the Museo del Prado and the Real Academia de Bellas Artes; while Valencia will host the European headquarters of the Hispanic Society of America with 220 works by the artist.
