Spain strengthens its role as an air bridge with Latin America

4 March, 2026

Iberia will increase its capacity to Latin America by 7.6% in July and August, reaching 3.35 million seats and 366 weekly flights between Europe and the region. The reinforcement consolidates Madrid and Spain as one of the main connection hubs between both continents.

The increase in capacity is part of the Flight Plan 2030 and is focused on strategic markets. Buenos Aires will have 23 weekly frequencies, becoming the airline’s leading long-haul destination with more than three daily flights. On this route alone, 456,000 seats will be offered, 12% more year-on-year.

Mexico will expand its connectivity with the new Madrid-Monterrey route, operational since 2 June with three weekly frequencies and 36,288 seats in summer.

Brazil will approach 400,000 seats, 15% more, after the addition of Recife and Fortaleza and the reinforcement of Rio de Janeiro. The Dominican Republic will increase its capacity by more than 21%, while Puerto Rico and Santiago de Chile will reach up to 12 weekly frequencies.

The expansion strengthens Spain’s positioning as a strategic gateway between Europe and Latin America.
