Spanish hotels want to be the most accessible in the world
15 April, 2026The Spanish hotel sector wants to strengthen its international appeal with a broader commitment to accessibility and inclusion throughout the entire travel experience.
CaixaBank and Ilunion Accessibility have presented the Spanish guide “How to make tourist accommodation accessible. Legal and functional requirements", a manual aimed at all types of establishments to apply accessibility criteria from online booking through to check-out.
The approach goes beyond regulatory compliance and places accessibility as a strategy for quality, reputation and business. According to the data presented, in Europe there are 101 million people with accessibility requirements, while Spain ranks as the second preferred destination for this profile, behind Italy and ahead of France.
The guide identifies three key challenges for hotels: the design of accessible rooms, the availability of real and verified information about their features, and staff training. It also includes good practices, checklists and guidelines on technology, inclusive events and labour integration.
