Seven Spanish cities join forces to improve the tourist experience

15 April, 2026

Seven of Spain’s main cities have created a network to improve tourism management, with the aim of offering a more sustainable and better organised experience for European visitors.

Barcelona, Madrid, Málaga, San Sebastián, Seville, Valencia and Zaragoza have launched the Urban Tourist Destinations Network, an initiative that seeks to strengthen coordination between some of Spain’s most visited cities.

These seven cities concentrate 29 million tourists, 25% of the national total and have a combined population of 8.3 million inhabitants, reflecting their weight in European urban tourism. The aim is to improve the management of visitor flows, sustainability and the preservation of heritage.

The network will work on key aspects for travellers such as the organisation of urban areas, the adaptation of services and the integration of digital tools. It also aims to respond to changes in travel habits and the growing demand for more balanced experiences.

In a first phase the project will establish a cooperation framework to define its operation and possible funding channels, with Valencia as coordinator. The initiative seeks to move towards a more planned tourism model in urban destinations that are increasingly in demand.
