El Camino a Vela: pilgrimage by sea to Compostela
13 May, 2026The 11th El Camino a Vela Crossing will once again show that it is also possible to reach Santiago by following the call of the sea. On 5 June it will set sail from La Rochelle and will end up on 27 June in Santiago de Compostela, after a journey that combines sailing, culture, sustainability and the thrill of experiencing the Camino from a unique perspective.
The crossing will follow the Cantabrian and Atlantic coasts with stopovers in Hondarribia, Bermeo, Santurtzi, Laredo, Santander, Gijón, Avilés, Ribadeo, Viveiro, Cedeira, Ferrol, A Coruña, Muxía, Muros, A Pobra do Caramiñal and Vilagarcía de Arousa, before reaching Padrón and completing the final stretch to the Cathedral on foot. Nautical pilgrims must prove at least 100 miles sailed and have their credential stamped in order to obtain the Compostela.
The 2026 edition also incorporates BluePath, the app promoted by Educación Azul to bring Generation Z closer to the opportunities of the blue economy and Blue Professions. With a limit of 15 boats, a crew pool and outreach activities in the ports of call, El Camino a Vela invites participants to sail, discover ports, share adventure and look at the sea as a territory of shared professional future.
