Burgos revives transhumance as a sustainable tourism proposal
10 June, 2026La Senda del Pastoreo, part of Spain’s Network of Natural Trails, allows visitors to explore Burgos along a route linked to livestock tradition, rural landscape and active tourism.
The route, also signposted as GR-282, follows old paths once used by shepherds and their flocks transforming them into a sustainable tourism initiative that can be explored on foot, by bicycle or on horseback.
As it passes through Burgos, the route crosses the areas of Las Merindades, Valle de Losa, Montes Obarenes and San Zadornil, combining pastures, villages with traditional architecture, forests, gorges and protected natural areas.
The route allows visitors to discover places such as the Purón river gorge, Valpuesta, linked to the origins of Castilian, or the Casa del Parque of Montes Obarenes-San Zadornil.
La Senda del Pastoreo thus reinforces the role of Burgos as a destination of nature, history and active tourism, supported by a livestock heritage that remains part of the territory’s identity.
