Renfe activates the plan to renovate railway stations throughout Spain
8 July, 2026Renfe has launched the A Punto plan, a national works programme aimed at improving 110 Cercanías and Ancho Métrico stations within 18 months. The initiative, with an investment of €24.8 million euros, seeks to increase comfort, strengthen accessibility and renew everyday spaces for travellers.
The plan will be carried out between 2026 and 2027 through rapid, high‑impact interventions, divided into seven territorial lots. Madrid and Barcelona concentrate the largest budgets, with €4.8 million in each case, while the rest of the works are distributed between Andalusia, the East, the Basque Country, Asturias‑Cantabria and Galicia‑Northwest. Each project will have an estimated cost of between €100,000 and €500,000 euros, with between 12 and 18 interventions planned per territory.
Renfe aims to raise quality standards and strengthen the accessibility and comfort of its facilities through initiatives designed to provide more functional access points, renovated concourses, new lighting, canopies, platforms, façades, car parks, bicycle spaces and tactile paving routes. The works also include improvements to paving and vertical surfaces.
Interventions are prioritised according to their impact on travellers, urgency, technical complexity and duration of the works, with the aim of implementing standardised solutions, maintaining station operability and achieving noticeable improvements in short timeframes.
