More vertigo at Málaga’s natural icon
8 July, 2026Since 10 June, the Caminito del Rey has featured a 110‑m suspension bridge that adds an extra attraction to the route through the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes gorge in Málaga, and which aims to become one of its most photographed points due to its location and the sense of height it adds to the experience.
The walkway, considered the longest of its kind in Spain, reaches a maximum height of 50 metres and offers a clear passage width of 1.2 metres. Featuring a metal floor, steel-and-mesh railings and a 17-tonne structure, the installation has a total weight of 38 tonnes. The bridge is located before the area above the railway bridge and the El Chorro tunnel, where it will allow the final section of the route to be modified.
With this alternative, visitors will be able to avoid almost one kilometre of descent along steeper hillside, although the current route will remain available. The project also includes 300m of new path, railings, fibre optics, cameras, a control cabin and improvements to vegetation and irrigation. The €1.5 million investment comes from funds generated by the Caminito itself, which since its reopening in 2015 has received 3.2 million visitors.
