The Balearics speed up the modernisation of their hotels with 45 projects
12 August, 2026The Balearics lead hotel renovation in Spain with 45 projects affecting 7,756 rooms, according to The Hotel Property Telescope 2026, drawn up by EY-Parthenon. The archipelago accounts for 21% of the refurbishment projects planned nationwide and 26% of the rooms currently being refurbished to enhance the quality of the accommodation offering, strengthen its international market position and meet the expectations of an increasingly discerning clientele.
Modernisation is particularly concentrated in the upper segments. Of the 45 projects identified, 34 correspond to 4- and 5-star hotels, with 5,903 rooms under renovation, over 76% of all the capacity affected in the islands.
Four-star establishments account for 27 projects and 4,865 rooms, while 5-star properties add seven projects and 1,038 rooms in transformation.
This renovation drive is complemented by a pipeline of 24 new hotel developments, which will add 2,222 rooms to the Balearic market. Seventeen of these projects will be 4- and 5-star establishments and will account for 1,910 rooms, equivalent to 86% of the new supply planned. The luxury segment will have a prominent weight, with ten 5-star hotels under development and 1,459 new rooms, placing the Balearics among the main Spanish markets for high-end growth.
