From co-sailing to the eclipse: experiences to enjoy the sea
12 August, 2026The sea is gaining importance in summer holidays, driven by travellers who want to discover destinations from a different perspective. Sailing between coves, exploring small islands or stopping to swim in crystal-clear waters is now among the most in-demand plans. According to a study by TUI Musement, more than 88% of travellers are interested or very interested in booking a boat excursion during a stay on the coast.
The offering has diversified thanks to platforms that have brought nautical tourism closer to a wider public, by allowing people to book a place on a sailing boat, share crossings or take up sailing without owning a boat.
Among the most unique plans this summer are trips to watch from the open sea the solar eclipse on 12 August off Mallorca, Catalonia or Galicia; routes through natural areas such as the Cíes Islands, with concerts on board and tastings of local gastronomy; and co-sailing, designed for solo travellers who want to share the experience, allowing them to sail the waters of Ibiza and Formentera or enjoy weekend getaways. These proposals are joined by the Traslatio Route of the Camino de Santiago by sea, with stops in historic ports, fishing towns and Galician rías, and sailing courses in the Balearic Islands and along the Mediterranean coast.
In Tenerife, the routes allow visitors to admire the Cliffs of Los Gigantes, swim in Masca Bay or enjoy themed cruises for families, such as the princesses and superheroes experience. Fuerteventura offers crossings along Jandía and chill-out sunset trips that combine music, gastronomy and views of its volcanic landscape.
