Renfe and iryo strengthen high-speed services between Madrid and Malaga
12 August, 2026The high-speed connection between Madrid and Malaga is facing the summer season with a significant increase in capacity. Renfe and iryo will increase their services from July to respond to rising demand, adding new services and more seats available. In addition, the restoration of double-track operation on the section between Antequera and Los Prados, as well as in the Álora area, will improve operations and reduce journey times.
Iryo will expand its offering with four new daily services, two in each direction, which will be available every day of the week until 31 August. The company will thus reach 14 daily services on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, compared with the current 10, representing 28 new weekly services and 12,908 additional seats each week. The restoration of double track between Antequera and Los Prados will reduce journey times, strengthening the route’s competitiveness during the months of highest demand.
For its part, Renfe will add eight more AVE trains per week, increasing the weekly services between Malaga and Madrid from 166 to 174. The offering will grow by 5.8%, from 57,836 to 61,176 weekly seats, with two additional services on Fridays and Sundays, as well as a slight timetable adjustment on AVE and Avlo services. This increase coincides with the restoration of double-track operation as it passes through Álora, after the works carried out by Adif to repair the damage caused by the February rain.
