Mallorca proposes a new rule for living together
12 August, 2026The Consell de Mallorca and the Fundació Turisme Responsable de Mallorca are promoting a campaign that calls for a reciprocal relationship between residents, visitors and the territory, funded by the Sustainable Tourism Tax of the Govern de les Illes Balears.
Mallorca wants to open a new conversation about tourism. A conversation that is not limited to counting visitors or seasons, but that asks how it can continue to be a good place to live and, at the same time, a destination admired all over the world. From that reflection comes “There's only one rule to experience Mallorca. I take care of you, you take care of me.”, the campaign promoted by the Fundació Turisme Responsable de Mallorca and the Consell de Mallorca.
A destination that never stops being home
Mallorca moves you with its coves, the Serra de Tramuntana, its villages, its heritage and a way of life that is deeply Mediterranean. But the island is much more than what is visited. It is the place where everyday life unfolds: where people work, study, create families, keep traditions alive and where neighbours meet in the square or at the same market as always.
This double reality, destination and home, is one of Mallorca’s greatest strengths and also one of its major challenges. Behind every street, cove and landscape there is a community that brings the island to life all year round. Understanding this is the first step towards relating to it in a different way.
The campaign, funded by the Sustainable Tourism Tax of the Govern de les Illes Balears, starts from a simple idea: Mallorca is, at the same time, the home of those who live there and the destination chosen by millions of people. From this shared reality, it offers an invitation to enjoy and experience the island with empathy, respect and care for the environment, promoting coexistence based on mutual consideration and on the value of sharing the same space.

Ca Nostra: the island as a shared home
The idea of “Ca Nostra” brings the message to a more familiar level. When someone opens the door of their home, a silent agreement is established: whoever enters respects their rhythms, looks after what has been entrusted to them and tries to leave the same impression they would like to find if they were the host.
Mallorca has always been an open land, shaped by the meeting of cultures and by a way of welcoming that is part of its identity. This hospitality also involves recognising that the island has a history, a community, a language, traditions and a way of life that deserve to be preserved.
“I take care of you, you take care of me” sums up this reciprocity with an everyday, Mediterranean expression. Mallorca shares its landscape, its culture, its heritage and its way of life with the world. In return, it calls for respect for the island, its rhythms and those who live there. Feeling well received and acting considerately are part of the same experience.

The small gestures that shape coexistence
Coexistence is built every day and is recognised in actions that may seem small. Respecting the peace and quiet of a neighbourhood. Looking after a beach as if it were your own. Valuing the traditions that give the island its identity. Supporting local businesses. Understanding that behind every corner there are people who live, work and make possible the Mallorca that everyone shares.
These are simple gestures, but capable of transforming a visit into a more authentic experience. The campaign presents them not as obligations, but as a way of taking part in the territory and preserving what makes it unique. Coexistence is reflected in the relationship with the place and with the people who call it home.

From slogan to shared commitment
Mallorca Ca Nostra expresses a way of understanding responsible tourism. The Fundació Turisme Responsable de Mallorca is promoting a balanced model that places residents at the centre of decision-making, protects the island’s identity and seeks to harmonise visitors’ enjoyment with daily life.
Within this framework is the Pledge, defined as an ethical code and a shared promise between residents, visitors and institutions. Joining means reducing water footprint, respecting the biodiversity of the coves and supporting local businesses. The aim is to take an active part in caring for Mallorca and help leave the island better than you found it.
The commitment is structured around three values. Respect for identity invites you to value traditions, language and historical heritage. Care for the environment calls for the protection of water, forests and the sea, as well as avoiding waste on the beaches. Harmonious coexistence proposes being a conscious visitor, attentive to the rest and daily life of residents.
