Flex living grows in Spain, diversifying demand

9 September, 2026

Flexible accommodation is gaining ground in Spain and expanding its audience beyond students and young professionals. According to data from Cando Living, the country will go from around 19,000 current places to nearly 39,000 in 2028, practically double.

Growth is supported by more diverse demand, made up of digital nomads, posted workers, highly mobile professionals and, increasingly, adults over 50 who are looking for independence, services and a more active social life without taking on the obligations of a conventional rental.

Madrid is leading this expansion and concentrates a large part of the new projects, especially in metropolitan areas where there is greater availability of land to develop buildings designed specifically for this use.

The model combines private apartments, professional services and common areas dedicated to leisure, wellbeing and community life. Cando Living, in La Moraleja, is one of the projects aimed expressly at the senior segment.

Investment is also accompanying this evolution: the projected volume in living and alternative assets reaches 5.8 billion euros, 33% more than the previous year.
