The LGTBI + market segment will be promoted among Spanish destinations

9 March, 2022

Spain has committed to promoting the Destinations for Diversity Network and to promoting Madrid Pride being declared of National Tourist Interest. There are more and more regions of the country and municipalities that are responding to a reality that the protagonists of their business and social fabric present to them.

In fact, for the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, "LGBT tourism is a sector that should be particularly focused on and that will be key to the consolidation of tourism in our country" in the coming years.

As an example, Valencia will host the Gay Games in 2026. And it can also be outlined that Castilla la Mancha, Extremadura and Zaragoza are being promoted as inland and rural tourism destinations for this segment. While Andalusia, Torremolinos, Ibiza and Gran Canaria continue to innovate and consolidate LGBT sun and beach tourism, in unison with a wide range of leisure activities.

And of course we have to mention Madrid, which from a shared work space between the Community and the City Council presents the region’s great offering as an LGTBI tourist destination” The Deputy Mayor of Madrid, Begoña Villacís, pointed out that the Spanish capital has been always a welcoming city and that its districts are an example of tolerance and true diversity.

Among all of them, Chueca stands out for its offering and its design, which "is a great example of a neighbourhood that has succeeded in reinventing itself and positioning itself as a cosmopolitan cutting edge space, where freedom is a tourist attraction for people from all over the world", remarked Villacís.
