Costa's LNG-powered eco cruise ship to call at Barcelona

16 March, 2022

Costa Cruises' new Costa Toscana set off on its maiden voyage on 7 March, departing from the port of Barcelona. This next-generation ship is run on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), which is considered a much more sustainable fuel than those currently used within the industry.

The eco-cruise will call at Barcelona every week until May, and then again every week during autumn. Together with the Costa Firenze and the Costa Smeralda – the other two new additions to the fleet – they'll make a total of 148 calls at Barcelona in 2022, compared to 38 in 2021.

For the cruise line, the launch of the Costa Toscana represents a restart of the Costa Cruises fleet's operations after the pause brought on by the pandemic. In fact, this ship will be followed by 7 more, which will join those already in service.
