The ship “Salamanca” from Brittany Ferries links Portsmouth and Spain

13 April, 2022

In spring 2002, the ship “Salamanca”, from the shipping line Brittany Ferries, started linking the English port in Portsmouth with Bilbao’s, in the Basque Country, with two departures a week -on Sundays and Thursdays- and 33 and a half hours journeys, which could be used to rest or do different activities.

The “Salamanca” has got a solarium with equipment to practise different sports, a video-games area, a children’s playground, and on-board shop. Besides, it offers free wi-fi to all the passengers as well as videos on demand. All this was thought of to offer pleasant and delightful journeys.

It is an innovative ferry, as it is the first of the company’s driven by liquified natural gas (LNG). Thus, it is the most ecological of the Brittany Ferries fleet up to the moment and a twin of the “Galicia”. All its design is based on efficiency and emissions reduction.

It should be noted that Bilbao is a port city in the north of Spain, which offers a vibrant combination of both modern and historical attractions the visitor can explore. It is a perfect entrance to Spain, being only 4 hours away from Madrid by car and 6 hours away from Barcelona.
