Seville gets ready to celebrate its first post-pandemic April Fair

27 April, 2022

The Feria de Abril (or April Fair) is the most important cultural and tourist event in Seville in spring, looked forward to by people throughout the year and which was postponed in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is back at last to shine in the Seville sun.

It will be held between the 1st and 7th of May 2022 ̶ two Sundays after Holy Week, as is the tradition ̶ beginning with a lights switch-on and finishing with fireworks. The previous, on Saturday the 30th of April, Sevillians celebrate what is known as “El Pescaíto” (“The Little Fish”).

The April Fair is considered a Festivity of International Tourist Interest and stands out for being packed full of life, with Sevillians wearing their typical flamenco dresses, dancing non-stop, and consuming good quantities of “manzanilla”, or fine sherry wine, ham, and other food typical of the time and celebration.

The bulk of activity is concentrated in a large open-air venue called “Real de la Feria”, with streets made of stalls just for the occasion, decorated with lanterns, through which horse riders and horse-drawn carriages move around, and which is visited by 500,000 people daily. A great experience not to be missed.
