Viajes El Corte Inglés wants to lead sustainable tourism in Spain

18 May, 2022

The company Viajes El Corte Inglés has joined the ‘Green & Human’ agreement as a leading partner towards sustainable tourism. The signing of this agreement came after they joined the committee for the “Experiencias Turismo España” programme launched by the Secretary of State for Tourism, through Next Generation EU funds, which promotes projects with stakeholder networks that create sustainable, digital, inclusive and competitive tourism experiences in Spain.

The Green & Human committee is made up of more than 56 companies in the value chain of the tourism sector. Leading the committee, together with Jumbo Tours, are Apple Leisure Group and Grupo Viajes El Corte Inglés. The latter strongly agrees with the sustainable development of tourist destinations, which is why they have joined Green & Human as co-leader and promoting partner.

The Deputy Managing Director of Grupo Viajes El Corte Inglés, Miguel Ángel de la Mata, said that "the tourism sector can and must take a leading role in the sustainable development of the country. Thanks to Green & Human, we have an excellent opportunity to continue advancing in the sustainable transformation of tourism and to set objectives and commitments under a unique strategic framework".

Viajes El Corte Inglés has been strongly committed to sustainability for several years and since 2016 has been part of the working group "responsible tourism, a commitment for all" of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) marked by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which includes 17 goals set out by all the Member States of the United Nations.
