NH Hotels will use 100% renewable energy

1 June, 2022

The NH Hotel Group chain has proposed the use of 100% renewable energy at its hotels in Spain from December 2023. This initiative forms part of the company’s ‘SBT Commitment Plan 2030’ and sets the goal to reduce its carbon emissions by 20% across its entire value chain until 2030.

In order to achieve this goal, NH has signed a contract with Acciona Energy and the company division will supply more than 100GWh/year of renewable electricity to cover the needs of the entire hotel chain, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 14,000 tonnes per year thanks to this use of clean energy.

The chain has highlighted its continued efforts to enhance awareness and preservation of the environment in which it conducts its business activity and minimise the environmental impact of its establishments. NH Hotel Group has reduced its carbon dioxide production by 91% in scope 2 and 61% in scopes 1+2 and has saved close to 30,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide, which is the equivalent of 31% (scopes 1 + 2) of the company’s carbon footprint.
