Balearía will increase its eco-efficient fleet with 3 new boats
1 June, 2022The Balearía ferry company has pledged to increase its eco-efficient fleet to at least 3 boats during the course of 5 years. To achieve this goal, it has obtained funding for 80 million euros that will be used to acquire this category of boat and install electrical charging connections in other boats that comprise its fleet.
The last measure will address a policy to reduce emissions in the shipping industry in terms of both in-port presence and on ferry and boat journeys. The company has begun to make investments in its existing boats to install electrical connections to the port facilities for when its boats are moored, to allow for fuel-free operations.
It’s important to note that eco-friendly boats are deemed to be those which are run on gas (Balearía has 9), hydrogen or electrically charged batteries, due to their nature as technologies that produce lower emissions than conventional fuels and are therefore considered clean energies.
