The biggest aircraft now have a home at Barcelona Airport
1 June, 2022Barcelona Airport has improved its Infrastructure this May with the addition of new south gate and boarding area in Terminal 1, which has the capacity to hold larger, wide-body aircraft types that carry out long haul flights. The new section was finished in 2021 and 48 million euros.
The airport now reaches a total of 5 new contact boarding gates for aircraft carrying out intercontinental flights and three levels for separating passenger traffic. Using this system, departures and arrivals for domestic and Schengen flights will be conducted on the lower level, arrivals for non-Schengen area passengers on the middle level and departures of non-Schengen flights on the upper level.
With the new gate area at Terminal 1, the airport is considered the Mediterranean’s key intercontinental hub. It’s also worth noting that Barcelona Airport has also reopened areas previously closed due to the pandemic this May, which included Terminal T2C and the M & R sections of Terminal 2B.
