Meliá’s first carbon neutral hotel opens in Menorca

29 June, 2022

Meliá Hotels International will celebrate the launch of its Gran Meliá brand in Menorca with Villa Le Blanc at the end of July. It is both the island’s first Gran Lujo hotel and first member of The Leading Hotels of the World group, an organisation it has the privilege of joining even before opening. The prototype carbon neutral hotel will have deep Menorcan roots and be located on Santo Tomás beach.

Villa Le Blanc has been conceived as a prototype carbon neutral hotel, the first in Menorca and an important milestone for the Group in terms of its environmental strategy. It incorporates an efficient energy management system based on the implementation of renewable energies such as biomass, solar energy and geothermal energy.

The vice-president and CEO, Gabriel Escarrer, emphasised that “a project like this, which allows us to make significant progress on the road to hotel decarbonisation, and in such a special place as Menorca, a Biosphere Reserve, is the most tangible result of Meliá’s strategic commitment to promoting a hotel model based on excellence, responsibility and sustainability”.
