Barcelona, pioneer in obtaining the Biosphere Platinum certificate
27 July, 2022The city of Barcelona and the three tourism brands that represent the Barcelona province have been named Biosphere Platinum Destinations, thus becoming the first destinations in the Biosphere Community to receive this award. This has been made possible thanks to collaborative work between different governmental organisations.
The project is enjoying unprecedented success and is mobilising the destination’s whole tourist industry thanks to the commitment made by the Provincial Deputation of Barcelona to adhere to and support the promotion of sustainability, the 2030 Agenda and the UN’s 17 SDGs, which has seen the participation of almost a thousand companies from all regions that will receive their Platinum recognition.
The companies taking part in this commitment have also demonstrated continuous improvement in their production and consumption models and their alignment with sustainability, which has also led to the awarding of the Biosphere certification. As a result of this progress, this important recognition also saw the awarding of certificates to the more than 800 participating companies that have demonstrated the implementation of best practices as part of the scheme and awarding criteria.
