85 Spanish Blue Trails awarded for their quality during 2022
3 August, 2022The Blue Trail Flag, which recognises the environmental, landscape and heritage quality and offer of pedestrian trails, has been awarded to a total of 85 trails this year. The selected routes form part of a 475-kilometre network and are found in 73 municipalities across 19 Spanish provinces.
The Blue Flag Trails initiative was launched in 2011 as a pilot program that recognised 12 coastal trails. These so-called educational trails were all joined to our originated on Blue Flag beaches. The idea was a huge success and the ADEAC organisation decided to further expand the scheme.
The programme has gone on to experience continued growth, thanks to the invaluable support of the Biodiversity Foundation and the Spanish Ministry for Environmental Transition. The trails have provided an excellent contribution to tourism in the municipalities awarded the prestigious Blue Flag.
