440 tourism companies in the Canary Islands certify their sustainability
24 August, 2022A total of 439 companies from the Canary Islands are already part of the Biosphere Community, thanks to the subsidised access that Turismo de Tenerife, Turismo de Gran Canaria, the World Biosphere Reserve of La Palma and the SPEL Tourism Association of Lanzarote have made available to companies on their islands.
Through this initiative, organisations can access the Biosphere platform and start drawing up their own sustainability plans free of charge. This platform allows them to work easily and intuitively on sustainability actions that may seem complex at first glance.
For example, how to be more sustainable in your business activity or how to differentiate oneself and ensure a return on your products and services by applying sustainable practices. By participating in the programme, they are also eligible to achieve the Biosphere Certified seal, internationally recognised by the main search engines and tour operators, such as Google, Booking, Agoda, Easyjet and TUI, in their sustainable travel programmes and eco-labels.
The Managing Director of Turismo de Tenerife, David Pérez, highlighted the island's interest in "attracting a tourist profile committed to the environment, interested in culture and traditions, and who is looking for unique places and experiences, while respecting our surroundings", and added that "the Biosphere certification, which many of Tenerife's companies already hold, endorses our commitment as a sustainable destination and positions us as a benchmark in the area".
