A new step towards inclusive hiking in Spain

7 September, 2022

The Spanish Railway Foundation (FFE) and the Representative Platform for People with Physical and Organic Disabilities (PREDIF) have signed an agreement whose main objective is to create a framework of collaboration between both entities to improve the accessibility of the Vías Verdes (greenways) in the Spanish national territory.

The aim is to facilitate and promote initiatives, programmes, projects and measures aimed at improving accessibility conditions in environments, products and tourist services in the territories where these greenways are located. It is also to present candidatures and joint participation in national and European projects.

The document includes several areas of action such as advice on accessibility; verification visits and consultancy; inclusion of the facilities and the accessible tourism offer analysed in the Accessible Tourism Platform, TUR4all; training of people working in Spanish Greenways on accessibility through courses, conferences or events; etc.

Both institutions will also carry out joint awareness-raising campaigns, aimed at professionals in the tourism sector, on accessible tourism and the needs of people with disabilities. These measures will not only be carried out from the point of view of civic rights, but also from the perspective of the market, which demands more advanced services, as a maxim of profitability, capacity, quality, safety and sustainability.
