376 tourist establishments fined in Mallorca, including illegal operations

In its first year in charge of the island's tourism planning, the Consell de Mallorca has so far carried out 1,462 inspections on tourist establishments during the first seven months of this year, which have resulted in 376 infraction reports in cases of non-compliance and 132 establishments identified as illegal operations.

From the total number of inspections conducted, 1,006 have taken place at tourist accommodation establishments, 255 on tourism agencies and 168 on restaurants and entertainment establishments, among a range of other business settings. During the course of these inspections, 376 legal infractions have been identified and are currently being prosecuted and could lead to fines.

The majority of these inspections were carried out in the island’s tourism hubs, including Palma (561 inspections), Calvià (123), Llucmajor (113), Alcúdia (63), Pollença (62), Santanyí (54), Santa Margalida (44) and Sóller (44).

Tourism accommodation establishments have made up 292 of the infractions, of which 132 were illegal tourist accommodation establishments. The rest of the non-compliance infractions identified at accommodation establishments are the result of overbooking. The remaining infractions have been identified at restaurants and entertainment establishments (56) and tourism agencies (10).
