Wearing a face mask will remain compulsory on flights to Spain

21 September, 2022

More than three months after Europe’s infectious disease specialists advised European Union member states to suspend the mandatory use of face masks for air travel, which was enforced for public transport and flights, Spain is now the only country still requiring face masks on aeroplanes.

The use of masks is not compulsory in almost any other public place, including airport terminals, but they are mandatory by law as soon as a passenger boards the plane.

It should be noted that the use of face masks continues to be mandatory on public transport in Spain, including buses, taxis, planes and trains, as recently reiterated by the Spanish Minister of Health, Carolina Darias.
