Which Spanish city uses taxis as a tourist office?

12 October, 2022

Bilbao's taxis will become “tourist offices” where sector professionals will inform visitors about the range of tourism resources in the Basque Country. The pilot project “Bizit Euskadi in public transport” has been launched thanks to the collaboration of the authorities and local taxi drivers' associations.

The Basque Government Minister of Tourism, Javier Hurtado, has specified that the programme has two tools: an online training from the Basque Tourism-Basquetour Agency aimed at all taxi drivers, so that they know Basque tourism products and can be “ambassadors” of the destination; and a QR code placed inside the taxis through which tourists can redirect their mobile devices to the Euskadi tourism portal.

It is important “to prepare the taxi drivers so that they can explain to tourists the benefits of the territory in terms of cultural, gastronomic and all kinds of tourism”. Taxis will thus become “a branch of a tourist office”, remarked Iñaki Pardo, spokesman for Radio Taxi Bilbao.
