The greatest duty-free concourse in the World for Spanish airports
26 October, 2022At the TFWA World Exhibition & Conference in Cannes, the Spanish airport management body Aena has brought together the world's leading duty-free operators for the largest competition for duty-free shops in the airport industry, which will be launched in Spain at the end of 2022 and whose tender value is 18,000 million euros. The business includes more than 85 duty-free points of sale which occupy over 55,000 m2, the equivalent of more than 7 football fields.
The presentation took place in early October at the fair organised by the Tax Free World Association (TFWA), the largest association of duty-free and travel retail operators, in the French city of Cannes. The TFWA World Exhibition & Conference is held annually and is considered one of the largest forums in the industry.
The aims of the competition to renew the management of the duty-free shops in the airports of the Aena network are to maximise the value of this line of business, attract the largest number of international operators to apply for the different lots, diversify the business, adapt to the trend changes that are taking place both in the type of passengers and in the model and incorporate and promote the development and implementation of new technologies.
