Gran Canaria wants to attract more surfers

2 November, 2022

Surfing is much more than a sport, it is a way of life and it is also an opportunity in economic, educational, innovation and business terms. This was the main idea which has circled in all the interventions and workshops of the Gran Canaria Blue Economy Forum which was held in early October.

The Forum addressed the surfing industry from a global perspective. In fact, this activity has helped transform and has been a lever for economic development in different urban environments, as has happened with the neighbourhood of Guanarteme, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where almost a hundred companies linked to the world of surfing have been identified.

The City Council of Las Palmas in Gran Canaria explained that surfing produces an economic return of around 20 million euros in the capital. The city is part of the World Network of Surfing Cities.
