23 November, 2022

In the first nine months of 2022, almost 12 million British tourists visited Spain, which represents +441.4% compared to the previous year, a year which was marked by health restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the data released by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, to which Turespaña belongs.

In addition, between January and September, the expenditure of British tourists in Spain reached the figure of 13,760 million euros, 417.7% more than the same period in 2021. This makes the UK the country with the highest accumulated spending, with 20.2% of the total during the first nine months of the year.

This confirms it as the most important outbound market for Spain. It is followed by Germany (13.3%) and, way behind, France (9.6%). The destinations with the most tourist spending in September were the Balearics (with 22.8% of the total), Catalonia (20.2%) and the Canaries (13.9%).
