Seville will be the 2023 European Capital of Smart Tourism
30 November, 2022The city of Seville has been elected European Capital of Smart Tourism 2023, a distinction which places it at the top of the international rankings and helps to raise its profile and gain visitors by promoting a destination that is the third most visited urban destination and with the most growth in Spain and which is already offered as a shared city where one in four inhabitants lives from tourism.
The motto of the Seville candidacy is “Sharing is smart”, with the conviction that sharing experience, areas and ideas is the smartest way to improve. The city was competing with two other Spanish cities, Gijón and San Sebastián, qualifying for the title granted by the EC to distinguish destinations that have opted to innovate to make tourism development more sustainable.
Seville was measured against 28 other candidates from 13 countries but only seven shortlisted were invited to Brussels to present their proposals to a European jury this Wednesday. The jury valued Seville’s achievements in accessibility, sustainability, digitisation and commitment to historical heritage and creativity. But also due to the capital’s complete programme of activities for 2023.
