Renfe improves its fleet with 97 new mid-distance trains

4 January, 2023

Renfe has signed the purchase of 97 trains for the public services of Commuter trains and Mid-Distance. This purchase involves an investment of 858.4 million euros. Through this, Alsom will build forty-nine 100 m trains. Stadler will supply twenty 200m trains. In turn, CAF will manufacture 28 Mid-Distance trains.

The new commuter trains will have a capacity of at least 900 seats each, which is 20% more than the current Civia trains. What’s more, they will minimise the time passengers get off and on, through an advanced design with a minimum of 10 doors and spacious lobbies.

As for the 28 trains that CAF will build for Regional services, they will have all the comfort elements to cover journeys of more than 60 minutes. Likewise, they will all be fully accessible to facilitate the travel of people with reduced mobility, and will have Wi-Fi and areas for bicycles and buggies.
