Feria de Abril, one of Spain’s most anticipated annual fairs
19 April, 2023Seville’s 2023 Feria de Abril starts Sunday 23rd April and ends Saturday 29th April with a firework show. The “pescaíto dinner” before the opening of the Fair is on Saturday 22 April. The municipal ordinance stipulates that the event is held two Sundays after Easter. It will be the second consecutive edition after the cancellation in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.
The atmosphere is guaranteed the night of the “alumbrao”, on Sunday and Tuesday night, prior to the festive day of Wednesday, when many Sevillians enjoy a whole day of celebration.
The first Feria de Abril dates back to 1846 and its origin is due to a meeting of farmers and ranchers who the nobles of the time visited with their carriages. 177 years have passed but the essence of the meeting of that first trade fair has also become one of the most popular social events in Spain.
